Midnight at the Mandarin is a guaranteed squeeze as east-meets-west and a moneyed crowd throngs this grand old hotel’s flatteringly low-lit, bijou bar. Drinks are mixed behind a frosted-glass
modesty screen before being served at the art deco-inspired ‘catwalk’ bar, but at £16.50 a pop for the likes of moon shot (pisco, apple, lime, agave and kiwi berries), prices are more Jessie J than
your average Joe. Saké was the flavour du jour when we last looked in – perhaps mixed with vodka and cucumber in Knightsbridge martini. There’s also a notable selection of Champagnes, while fruity
ratatouille heads the mocktail list. Chic snacking tends towards the Orient – think spring rolls and dim sum.
The Mandarin Oriental is a flash hotel. It houses flash restaurants, is visited by flash guests and has probably got some pretty flash room service going on. It is also home to the Mandarin Bar, which is, obviously, one hell of a flash bar.
