A mainstay of the Wimbledon dining scene since 1999, the Light House is more contemporary Euro/Med than classic All England. A courtyard garden forms a backdrop for the tables within the pleasant, neutral-toned dining room which can become overly noisy as the evening progresses. The menu still has some quirks, such as offering a selection of 10 first courses but only five mains, & the hearty cooking is a bit hit & miss. A meltingly rich starter of squid braised in squid ink & red wine set off with a sharply peppery salad of watercress was a winner, but duck confit was dry & came with lumpy mash. Service is helpful & good-humoured. A three-course set dinner menu at £18 is offered Mon-Thurs until 7.30pm.
