Of all the kaitens in London, Kulu Kulu Sushi is by far the most authentic. In fact, the sparsely decorated & narrow room, with its looping conveyor belt & a small kitchen, could easily be in a Tokyo suburb. There are no frills, & the small platters that circulate have not been tweaked or westernised in any way. What you get is spankingly fresh seafood – sweet ama ebi (raw prawns) ‘tied’ to their rice bases with a strip of toasted nori, hand rolls bursting with tempura prawn & avocado, & spicy tuna rolls dusted with sanshyo pepper. If you don’t fancy sushi, try teriyaki chicken, agedashi tofu or seaweed salad. Be warned: arrive off-peak & you may find that some plates have been circulating for a while.
