Square Meal review of Kettners:
Still going strong after 140 years, Kettners has served royalty (Edward VII) & playwrights (Oscar Wilde), & retains a classy feel in its Champagne bar (if it’s fizz, they’ve got it - the wine list’s rather simpler) & its grand dining room with jazz pianist. So it comes as something of a surprise that it’s part of the Pizza Express chain, but don’t assume you’ll have that same-old menu. Sure, there are a few familiar pizzas, but many that aren’t, & they’re bigger & considerably pricier, too. Also featured are burgers, grilled meats & fish, plus salads, pastas & a rather incongruous all-day breakfast. It’s not quite the cheap night out it used to be & there have been recent complaints of snooty service, but the food is tasty & it’s a relaxing place to be.
