A cracking spot to take friends & colleagues from overseas, Northbank has two aces up its sleeve. First, there are the ‘amazing’ Thameside views of the Millennium Bridge striking out across the
water to Tate Britain. Second, the menu at this admirable two-storey venue demonstrates British food’s new-found confidence, with a daily repertoire celebrating regional produce. Dishes such as
Dartmouth smoked salmon or Brixham mussels steamed in Doom Bar Ale (brewed in Cornwall) hint at the owners’ West Country roots. Mains could run to roast loin of Suffolk pork with black pudding
& apple. The wine list also gets in on the act, with Chapel Down Pinot Noir from Kent making an appearance. Staff are widely praised. The lavender-bordered raised terrace is a fine spot on
summer days, but be warned: there’s a strong, dank whiff of the river when the tide’s out.
