Part of the Joseph fashion store on Draycott Avenue, this casual eatery is as deliberately cool and style-conscious as its customers – sleek glamazons in leather trousers and weather-independent sunglasses. The dining room’s pared-back, monochrome decor is punctuated by blood-red chairs, groaning bookshelves and vintage Beatles photos, although this place is about substance as well as style, with a short menu of upbeat, keenly priced dishes. The line-up changes daily, but typical offerings might run from beef carpaccio or grilled squid with chilli and slaw dressing to pan-fried poussin with grapes and roasted pumpkin or sea bass with spinach, courgettes and coco beans. Healthy salads are a perfect fit for little black dresses, although desserts such as chocolate mousse with ginger caramel and double cream come with a very different agenda. Service takes its time, but no one’s in a hurry.
