Amid the glut of wine bars aimed at City workers, this branch of Jamies has a chic, understated elegance that puts its rivals to shame. Bookended by two spiral staircases at each end of the bar, the space is decked out with red-leather seats & wooden tables, & there’s also an alfresco terrace overlooking bustling Bishopsgate. Pop in for lunch & you’ll find salads (peach, Parma ham & mozzarella) & club sandwiches, such as crispy duck with hoisin sauce, along with typical mains like homemade burgers, chargrilled rump steak, & Parmesan-crusted chicken. The beer list is nothing to get excited about, but thankfully, the wine list delivers the goods, with some interesting selections, helpfully organised by both grape & by country. Adventurous drinkers will head straight for the ‘off-piste’ & ‘serendipity’ sections, which contain some inspired choices.
