After a fire forced it to close for five months, Il Vicolo reopened in late 2007, & its fans will be pleased to hear that apart from a slightly sleeker look, little has changed. The jovial owner remains on the floor to greet his guests, & the chef continues to turn out hearty, flavour-packed Italian dishes. High-quality ingredients & simple execution are key: a fresh starter of baby squid with a lemon & chilli sauce or a chunky homemade vegetable soup could be followed by a creamy seafood risotto or juicy marinated leg of lamb with mixed herbs & garlic in a white wine sauce – all washed down with a nice bottle from the all-Italian wine list. The personal touch is everything here, & prices, considering the location & quality of ingredients, are reasonable.
