After last year’s Asian wanderings there’s a return to home territory for the menu at this large, funky Shoreditch restaurant & bar, where service is pleasantly informal & the furniture is a comfortable mishmash of 1970s classics. Home in this instance broadly means Europe & the Mediterranean, so that you can nibble marinated anchovies or chargrilled flatbread with hoummos while waiting for a starter of aged beef carpaccio with celeriac remoulade & capers. Mains include pan-fried gnocchi with girolles, confit shallot & truffle oil or roast rump of lamb with caponata. There’s a similarly European feel to the wine list, where bottles are listed by drinking characteristic & France dominates. Desserts include lemon tart or Neal’s Yard cheeses & there’s a nice Tokaji by the glass among the pudding wines.
