A refit has left this Davy’s wine bar as sharp as the modern building it sits in, with extra sparkle from a glowing, under-lit bar & smart new furniture. The courtyard remains a big summer draw, & the setting goes hand-in-hand with a menu of gourmet burgers (chicken & chorizo, 28-day aged steak), salt beef focaccias & a good old ploughman’s. The wine list is a decent mix of Old & New World names, beers run from Budvar to Whitstable Bay ale, & jugs of Pimm’s make an appearance at the first sign of clement weather. A ‘heeltap’ refers to the tiny amount of liquor left at the bottom of a vessel – mind you, the quality & breadth of the booze on offer should ensure that you drink every last drop.
