Square Meal Review of Grenadier ?

Leafy Wilton Row is so mature it feels like a slice of the countryside with a London postcode. The Grenadier, originally an officers’ mess for the 1st Royal Regiment of Foot Guards, maintains its 350-year bond with servicemen via an interior hung with antique pots from army kit bags & paintings of soldiers from bygone eras. But this place certainly doesn’t stand to attention: staff are friendly, & the unpretentious bar & interconnecting back rooms feature ceilings plastered with signed dollar bills from visiting Americans who’ve happened upon this old-fashioned hidey-hole. In fact, few tourists actually make it here, & the clientele – mainly salubrious local gents making exuberantly wealthy style statements – sip their pints of London Pride & Timothy Taylord Landlord in peace.

Dear Reader, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES VISIT THIS PLACE. THE STAFF AND LANDLORD ARE TRULY HORRIBLE PEOPLE WHO DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU, ONLY ABOUT YOUR WALLET. My friend and I went looking to spend a few hours eating, drinking, relaxing but after the landlord and one of his staff told us they had to have the table back in 1.30 hours making a no time pressure meal impossible, accused us of not paying for the drinks we'd had (we did and in cash), and called my (female) friend a ‘lying bitch’ we'd had enough. Since this incident I've seen other reviews that detail a similar experience. It's a real shame as with a decent landlord it could be brilliant.
