Very comfortable in its Shoreditch skin, Will Ricker’s veteran pan-Asian eatery still draws a boisterous, youthful crowd, attracted by its keenly priced grazing food & trendy booze. The roomy bar area, littered with comfy chairs, is the ideal spot for a pre-dinner drink – perhaps an Asian-inflected cocktail such as Mekong mule (ginger-infused Stoli with lemongrass, Kaffir lime leaf, lime juice & ginger beer). By contrast, the dining room feels sharper & slicker, although one reader was nonplussed by ‘aggressive’ & ‘rude’ service. The punchy menu is predominately made up of small plates: excellent chilli salt squid, sea-bass sashimi with truffle oil, crayfish with soba noodles, as well as a hearty plateful of roasted mackerel laced with Szechuan pepper, all hit the spot. The glossary on the back of each menu is a nice touch.
