Grapeshots

‘Wines...thousands of them’, as Michael Caine famously didn’t say. Part of the Davy’s group, Grapeshots has the feel of an old-fashioned boozer with its rather masculine dark-wood panelling – although you won’t find any draught beers here. Located down Artillery Passage (the bar takes its name from a type of cannon ammo), it houses an incredibly versatile inventory of wines from the Old & New Worlds, including a zingy Cloudy Bay from New Zealand & a richly textured red from Portugal’s Douro Valley. Food includes small plates such as patatas bravas & beer-battered fish goujons, & there are always more filling dishes such as bangers & mash on the menu. If the bar gets a bit frantic, head for the roomy downstairs area which doubles as a separate dining room.
