Offering ‘grown-up dining’ at its best, the Goring is a ‘proper English establishment’. The menu does get updated, of course, but favourites such as the glazed lobster omelette & trollied beef – good old-fashioned roast at lunch & Wellington for supper – are always there. Seasonal specials tend towards the traditional, too, with game in the autumn & asparagus in spring. Similarly, the interiors, beautifully made over by Lord Linley in 2005, feel bright & contemporary but remain elegant, much in keeping with a well-oiled operation where the service rarely misses a beat. All in all, ‘the place is not cheap but it is good value’ &, as such, extremely popular, so you’ll need to book ahead.
