It’s no mean feat for a hotel whose name means ‘personal style’ in Hindi to incorporate a more-or-less authentic English boozer into one corner. Even behind the landmark facade of Andaz, the interior of the George looks splendid, with a beautifully carved original ceiling & a Robbie Williams frieze in the dining room at the rear. There’s something of a masculine bias here, with soccer on big screens, & Guinness, Bombardier & Amstel on draught; the chatty, long-serving staff wear shirts emblazoned with the cross of St George & are efficient to a fault. The menu also flaunts its patriotic colours with pride, touting down-home Brit grub including a daily sausage & mash special, fish & chips, macaroni cheese, Eton mess & fruit crumble. Sandwiches are made to order on your bread of choice, & the wine list gets a thumbs-up.
