Square Meal review of The Fox Dining Room:
The sunny & informal upstairs dining room at The Fox is smarter now than previously, but the essential appeal of the place remains unchanged. So it’s still a proper boozer downstairs, albeit one with classy things to eat rather than darts scores chalked up on its blackboard. Dishes include linguine with mussels, chilli & garlic or duck & bacon salad with croutons as starters, with mains such as onglet with lyonnaise potatoes & green beans, & a girolle mushroom & cherry tomato risotto: all competently done gastropub stuff. The Francophile wine list offers a commendable selection by the glass & includes a delicate Chateau Les Crostes Cote de Provence rose at £19.50. The diminutive outside terrace is bookable & remains the place to be in fine weather.
