The glistening ice-filled display of shellfish at Catch stokes the appetite immediately, while nautical mosaics and crisp white tablecloths set the scene for a provenance-heavy menu of sustainably sourced seafood. Smartly dressed diners can take their pick from six types of oyster or go for a smoked-haddock Scotch egg, before sampling wild Cornish sea bass with octopus and aubergine, breadcrumbed plaice with brown shrimps and warm potato salad or even a grilled Dover sole. Mains don't come cheap, but there's also the option of a play-safe set menu (£25 for three courses) topped by desserts such as strawberry and vanilla flan. The adjoining Champagne bar draws a post-work crowd eager for their fizz fix – all the big names are present and correct, and there's a bellini-tinged cocktail list, too.

And I love not having to wach up a single dish afterwards! Catch restaurant and Champagne bar at the Andaz Hotel ticks all these boxes and more, so when Michelle invited me to join her for a review meal there, I leapt at the chance...
