The calm refinement of Catch & its adjoining Champagne Bar in the Andaz hotel complex is a far cry from the brashness of The George pub next door. The bar itself is a top call for a good-value bite, & the bubbles won’t gobble up bonuses either, with plenty of grand-marque fizz available for under three figures. The menu looks impressive & unfussy, too: eight types of oyster are on offer, roasted sea bass is paired with scallop boudin blanc, artichokes & Dijon mustard, & lobster thermidor arrives with linguine, lemon thyme, tarragon & mushy peas. Sadly, the cooking can sometimes let the side down, with readers citing ‘overcooked’ fish & chips & ‘chewy’ trout among the kitchen’s failings. That said, Catch is a relaxing spot for glass of fizz before catching the train.
