The freshness & innovation of Feng Sushi’s food certainly sets out to break the Japanese chain mould. Despite its somewhat generic interior of pristine wood & minimalist furniture, the large & inventive menu guarantees high levels of quality. All the usual suspects are on show – California rolls, prawn tempura, spicy tuna rolls – but it’s the more adventurous items & seasonal specials that show the real skill of the kitchen. Warm eel & teriyaki sauce & line-caught mackerel are just two standouts among the sushi, while a choice of tasty salads (udon noodle or seaweed) & soups (say, spicy baby squid with noodles) extend the restaurant’s appeal beyond raw fish. A worthy shout for those who can’t afford regular trips to Nobu.
