With a downstairs nightclub that’s a favourite haunt of WAGs on the razz, Embassy’s ground-floor dining room might not sound like an obvious destination for anyone in search of well-prepared modern French food. True, the menus are not as ambitious as when Embassy opened seven years ago, but the quality of cooking is nevertheless accomplished. Roast foie gras with caramelised mango featured velvety goose liver, while veal escalope to follow was grilled to well-timed succulence. To finish, peanut butter parfait with salted caramel ice-cream was smooth & satisfying. The spacious surrounds of bar & dining room furnished with lots of cream leather are as well dressed as the clientele, while there’s a pavement terrace for smokers & sun-seekers. A global wine list, half of which is priced under £30, is another plus; drawbacks include scant choice for vegetarians & service that, though keen, is a little clumsy.
