Despite a few cosmetic changes (including a strident aubergine hue on the back wall) & a move towards more generic European cooking, Elistano remains at heart a neighbourhood Italian. Decorative photos of vegetables being prepared emphasise the restaurant’s commitment to fresh produce, while pavement seating tempts Chelsea mummies & Italian expats on warm days. Choose from modern riffs (tuna carpaccio with dandelion salad or veal escalope with rocket & lemon, say), or stay with the seasonal risottos, pizzas & pasta; also check out eclectic new arrivals ranging from the Elistano burger with chips & tomato relish to razor clams with garlic breadcrumbs, broad beans & chorizo. Prices, though not exorbitant for this part of town, are a sticking point: ‘take your credit cards, because cheap it ain’t!’ advises one reader.
