It was in the vanguard of the posh-pizza brigade, but Eco is still with us 20 years later – which is a testament to its quality. Pizzas have come a long way since those early days, & the menu here doesn’t seem so exceptional now, but the food is still great: from classic margaritas to an all-singing, dancing porcini & truffle-oil topping. Those wanting a change from pizza don’t go hungry – the rest of the menu is long & varied, with an interesting list of antipasti, pasta & salads. The kitchen also makes full use of the wood-fired oven for main courses such as melanzane al forno, or braised lamb shank. It’s a shame the decor, stuck in the brutalist concrete 1990s, hasn’t worn so well.
