Not to be confused with the younger, trendier Ebury nearby, this seasoned campaigner has hosted many a long lunch down the decades. A mature crowd of well-to-do locals & businessmen love the ‘French country garden’ feel of the pretty dining room, where elaborate floral arrangements are framed by faded murals of leafy landscapes. An excellent-value three-course lunch menu (£22 with a glass of fizz) complements the rustic mood with homely dishes such as roast guinea fowl with bubble & squeak, although those seeking greater culinary stimulation should plump for the carte, where Thai fishcakes sit beside wasabi coleslaw, & Barbary duck is pepped up with grapefruit & ginger sauce. Fans of the grape are well served by the global wine list, which even reaches out to India & Brazil.
