Since swinging into Mayfair in 1979, this evergreen hybrid has been knocking out dinner, dancing and all that jazz for the good-time party set, crowds of tourists and celebs of every description. It may be an inoffensive sideshow to the live soul, blues and jive, but the stylish basement dining room offers decent sustenance from a wide-ranging international menu: expect anything from fillet of smoked haddock topped with a poached egg or monkfish with new potatoes and mussel stew to beef carpaccio with tapenade, pot-roast duck à l’orange, tournedos Rossini or grilled baby chicken with vegetable tagine. Otherwise, Dover Street’s two sprawling bars provide the main attraction for booze and boogieing as the party rolls on until the resident DJ stops spinning the decks at 3am. Note that a cover charge applies after 10pm, when the musicians start warming up.
