A sister branch of one of Cape Town’s leading eateries, Haiku feels less than convivial at first glance: although expensively decorated, the restaurant’s three dimly lit rooms lack the buzz a single large space would generate. A good thing, then, that the pan-Asian food, served tapas-style for sharing, is well prepared. Some 150 dishes are on offer, from sushi & sashimi to Thai soups, Chinese dim sum, Indian curries, wok-fried dishes, & meats & fish from a robata grill. Highlights include soft-shell crab tempura in the lightest of batters & stunning Chilean sea bass cheung fun boasting the silkiest of textures. Put careful consideration into what you order, as a heavily spiced dish such as spinach & cheese curry can overpower more delicate options – & be aware that the multiple plates mean that the size of the bill can mount rapidly.
