This warm, candlelit ‘Victorian’ bolt-hole in the shadow of St Paul’s is popular with local suits who seem to know its wine list by heart & friendly staff by name. Crisp Muscadet, florid Burgundy & a jammy Californian Zinfandel won’t break the bank. Foodwise, choose from a light lunchtime set or a beefier a la carte, off which the six S’s (soups, salad, sarnies, salmon, steaks & similar) are invariably part of a tried-&-tested formula.
