Elderly Pall Mall buffers are in bed by 11pm, while the younger blades are off chasing the ladies at Annabel’s or Mahiki, which explains the 10pm curfew at Davy’s St James’s branch. Olde-style candlelit tables & sawdusted floors add to the Victorian charm, as does Old Wallop ale served in pewter tankards. Food is a suitably SW1 mix-&-match of light bites, country kitchen & gentlemen’s club. Wines range from crisp Muscadet to the deep cherries & berries of a Chassagne-Montrachet at around £30. In short, there’s something to please everyone – something Davy’s has grown rather good at fulfilling over the last century or so.
