Part of the Caprice Holdings group & counting The Ivy & J Sheekey as its siblings, Daphne’s upholds the family’s highly regarded reputation. It’s good-looking in a classy, understated way, with textured cinnamon-coloured walls, smart linen-clad tables & an airy conservatory at the back. Service is spot-on – ‘attentive without being invasive’ – & though the food may not send shivers down your spine, it is executed with precision. Even a simple starter of baby artichokes with lemon & rosemary bursts with fresh flavour, while tagliatelle with wild boar ragu is rich & hearty, & the tiramisu is near perfect. Admittedly, it comes at a price (as does the well-selected, all-Italian wine list), but since Daphne’s excels in all areas, it’s one worth paying.
