The Cross Keys is the go-to gastropub for the smart set on this stretch of the embankment, & it pleases on all fronts. The pub side of the enterprise, with its flagstone floors, green Chesterfields, tarnished mirrors & posh snacks, has bags of charm, while the light-filled dining room is a more contemporary blend of white walls & a natty, fully retractable roof, with an open kitchen to boot. The menu magpies from the Mediterranean & beyond, & the result is a seasonal bonanza including the likes of beetroot fritters with horseradish mousse, wild Devon sea bass with grilled asparagus & romesco sauce, or globe artichoke & parsley risotto. The Sunday lunch menu breaks free of tradition, offering steaks & Wagyu burgers alongside more bankable roasts.
