Thanks to extensive Crossrail works, it’s becoming quite a kerfuffle to reach the Boot, although regulars reckon it’s well worth the inconvenience. A roomy venue, with ‘old-fashioned ambience’, this Davy’s outlet is a favourite with City quaffers who come to sample good numbers from the ‘excellent’ 50-bin wine list. Davy’s own-label selections, including a Spanish Tempranillo & French Sauvignon Blanc, are always reliable, & it’s good to see wines offered by the 125ml glass. Beer drinkers have ever-faithful Davy’s Old Wallop (in pewter tankards, if you wish), as well as Whitstable Bay Ale & Weston’s organic cider. Grub includes plates of beef topside with the trimmings or Moroccan lamb with couscous, plus a mix of platters & sandwiches. There’s outside seating, too, even if the view is rather unlovely wall-to-wall concrete.
