Square Meal Review of Chez Gerard Trinity Square ?

Moments from Tower Bridge & the Tower of London – & offering views of both – this relaxed branch of Chez Gerard works well for informal business lunches & romantic dinners alike. Sit yourself in one of the intimate wood-panelled booths, or perhaps under one of the ornate mirrors. The cooking is regional French, with star dishes brought together in one compact menu. You might lead with a Provençal dish of whole ‘gambas’ sautéed in garlic, parsley & fresh tomato, accompanied by a warm baguette for a dipping, before moving up to the mountains for that Haute-Savoie home-coming queen: tartiflette. Here, potato, crème fraîche & pungent reblochon cheese are layered into a pretty clay dish & baked in the oven, before being served with a fresh green salad. Readers reckon ‘indifferent’ service leaves some room for improvement.

Ordered the Cod from the 3 course fixed price menu. The starting soup very good and the
finishing dessert, lemon tarte also very good. But the cod was dreadful. Never have I had
fish so tough and have no idea where the filet was taken from . I have to assume the fish was malformed ! Another complaint was that upon receipt of the bill we were charged
4 pounds each for “cover charge” which charge was never mentioned on the menu nor
by the hostess. The restaurant only had 6 tables in use leaving 2/3rds of the restaurant
    empty.Cannot recommend.

Used to be a great place to go – maybe about 5 years ago. Went tonight 26/08/10 – Sent back the first fillet steak for being stringy and tough. Service turned from indifferent to slighlty hostile. Second one was like old leather. The bill at the end included the two steaks but with what the manager claimed was a ‘discount’. Went back just after I had paid to query the bill and it turned out there was no ‘discount’ and I had been charged more than the meal I had eaten. Execuse was “that's the way I have to put it into the till”. Very disappointing evening – poor service – unacceptable quality of food – expensive considering quality of service and food. It paons me to say it but avoid this place.

Went there on a weekday evening for 40th birthday celebration. The place was almost deserted and yet our party of 4 was seated under a fan blowing freezing cold air at us and we had to ask to be moved. Despite the kitchen staff having no-one else to cater to, our meals took a very long time to arirve and were stone cold when they did. The steak was decidedly average as was everything else. We had no starters, 4 main meals and shared two deserts between four of us. With 2 bottles of wine and 3 glasses of port our bill came to over £250! Staff were not exactly rude but not approachable either and they made it clear towards the end of the evening that they wanted us to go so they could too. A very expensive disappointment.

Been here before and had one of the best steaks I'd eaten in the UK..I arrived with 3 colleagues at 9pm (ish) on a Friday the place was emptier than I expeceted.. for the better I thought as the service may be quicker.
G&Ts arrived and wine was ordered..everything seemed ok until the waiter was asked to steady a rocking table .. from this point on we were treated with distain.. answers to questions about the food or wine were given in a rude and abrupt manner, it appeared as though we were an inconvienience for the waiters Friday night.
Starters arrived.. Oysters/Slamon/Pork Terrine .. oysters were not as chilled as they should be otherwise all was ok.
the rest of our food arrived an hour later – we were hungry but looking forward to the meal … everything arrived in dribs and drabs & some of the ordered sides & sauces did not arrive. I cut into a10oz fillet only to find it was stone cold. as were the other guests steaks. I can only assume that it had been sitting around for quite a while to get so cold.. ruined.. we spoke to the manageress who was fairely apologetic .. our waiter was no where to be seen.. but with so few customers (4 tables including ours) in the place it was unbelievable they couldnt manage 4 orders properly.. we left the restaurant without eating (or paying for the mains) and was too late to go anywhere else..

impossible to justify the price of the food for a restaurant this poor in attitude and service.. I will not be going back or recommending it to anyone again (as I have done in the past) nor will the other guests present that evening..

Go to the Gaucho instead.. much more consistant and they seem to know the value of thier customer
