The bright & attractive ground-floor restaurant at Chamberlain’s spills onto a covered terrace in summer & remains just about the classiest spot in Leadenhall Market for a relaxed seafood lunch with friends or colleagues. The best deal-doing or gossiping tables are on the more discreet mezzanine level, while the upstairs dining room is more formal; & if you want simpler fare head for the casual basement bar. Wonderful fish & good service win plaudits, though prices are high, with starters often well into the teens & main courses – the veggie options aside – above £20. Still, for that you might be tucking into lobster ravioli with vanilla froth followed by char-grilled bluefin tuna with artichokes & baby aubergines. Carnivores are not forgotten & the wine list is solid rather than quirky, with Sauvignon Blancs & Chardonnays unsurprisingly to the fore. If you’re splashing out, there’s a £155 Dom Perignon ’98 for celebrating the big deals.
