A lovely spot for a drawn-out lunch, Chamberlain’s revels in its Leadenhall market location, its sleek, contemporary interiors complementing the Victorian structure. The classy ground-floor dining room & understated mezzanine are blessed with a balcony & huge windows, allowing natural light to illuminate the modern art on the walls. Upstairs is a formal restaurant, while the basement holds a more casual bar. The doors were first opened in 2001 by Chamberlain & Thelwell, Billingsgate fishmongers for over 50 years, so it’s unsurprising that marine life stars on the menu. Follow such enticements as seared scallops with courgette relish & coriander dressing, or Irish oysters on ice with Tabasco & shallot vinegar, with main courses of Guernsey skate wing with capers & beurre noisette, or pan-fried sea bass with steamed pak choy & Asian crab broth. Service is attentive & the wine list includes a fine choice of white varietals.
