Lovers of all things Gallic and vinous (with the occasional bargain thrown in) should swing by Club Gascon's ‘annex' – a specialist bar dealing in the wines of south-west France with ‘small plates' to match. The menu is proudly regionalist, with a great line in charcuterie and all manner of ‘piggy' and ‘ducky' delights: rillettes, pâtés and ‘vintage' Bayonne ham make superior nibbles, while heartier fare takes the form of ‘tourte Gasconne' (warm duck and mushroom pie) and the ‘crazy quack burger' (aka Le Mac 'anard – geddit?). The express lunch menu remains a steal for a dish of the day such as pork cheeks with carrot and orange vinaigrette, plus a glass of wine, pudding and coffee. Other deals such as swish wines at half price on Mondays and Tuesdays are also well worth considering.
