Cavernous Cargo is a curious mix of chilled alfresco drinking zone (an atmospheric, Moroccan-style terrace) & serious clubbers’ hangout. This is first & foremost a music venue, but it’s well worth stopping by for some grub, whether it’s one of the weekday £5 specials at lunchtime (jerk-chicken burger & chips, say), lamb meatballs with steamed rice or something with an eclectic flavour – quesadillas, fried baby calamari, grilled merguez sausages. If you’re here for the tunes, you will also be spoiled for choice: DJs spin most nights (with free entry), & live acts cover a stack of genres from drum & bass to ska, jazz & ironic 80s’ synthpop. Note that the house rules demand that ‘anyone referring to Cargo as “Cargos” will be refused entry’. You have been warned.
