Square Meal review of Caldesi Tuscan:

Now in its 50th year, this Marylebone institution is famed for its authentic Tuscan cuisine, cookery school & even its own BBC TV series & recipe book. Despite the acclaim, Caldesi Tuscan still makes you ‘feel like one of the family’ with jovial service & simple Italian cooking that lets the well-sourced ingredients speak for themselves. Choose from starters such as octopus carpaccio with mint dressing & endive salad, then move on to a zingy plate of homemade ravioli stuffed with sea bass in a lemon butter sauce. As you’d expect, the wine list leans towards Tuscany, with a good showing of Chianti & reasonable prices if you steer clear of the Super Tuscans. Drawbacks include steep prices for the food & an interior that is starting to look a bit tired in comparison to its younger sibling up the road. A completely over-the-top ‘Renaissance room’ is available to hire upstairs.
