There’s nothing lacklustre about this down & dirty Mexican cantina which nightly packs a full house of lively margarita & fajita devotees. The food may be a predictable array of cheese-smothered tacos, sizzling steak fajitas & refried beans but it provides the necessary sustenance for the raft of fruity margarita pitchers (served frozen or on the rocks) that takes centre stage. Swift trade can equal impersonal service, but at least keeps the bar-side waits to a minimum. Bookings can be made in person on the day before 5pm or, if it’s busy, try nearby sister restaurant La Perla (28 Maiden Lane WC2, tel: 7240 7400).
