Perpetually busy, this down-&-dirty bar & diner is something of a Tex-Mex institution, attracting an up-for-it crowd who chuck down Tequila-heavy margaritas at the long bar while waiting for a table. Looks-wise, Café Pacifico is a bit rough & ready, yet the Mexican wall-art & overhead fans help evoke that authentic cantina feel. It’s an apt backdrop for a menu that brandishes a usual-suspects line-up of nachos, fajitas, quesadillas, enchiladas & burritos. More ‘modern’ dishes might include pollo relleno – corn-fed chicken stuffed with chorizo, onions & carrots, accompanied by an Ocho Blanco Tequila cream sauce & Mexican rice. Service is efficient & prices fair for the West End.

With a table larger than two you'll be waiting a few minutes, but the food is more than worth it. Portion sizes are large and most courses cost around £10. This restaurant is famous for its margaritas, but be warned – a pitcher will double the cost of your meal! The restaurant is always busy and has a lively atmosphere, which makes it difficult to converse at times, but the service is generally speedy and the food is honestly the best Mexican I've ever tasted. I can thoroughly recommend the Chimichanga, which comes with beef or chicken. Delicious.

Café Pacifico in Covent Garden is the best place for tasty genuine Tex-Mex in London. At peak times it’s almost impossible to walk in off the street and get a table and they don’t take bookings, but most people are more than happy to while away the wait for a table with a highly alcoholic cocktail from the bar. Decor is themed and conditions can be cramped, but the fresh, high quality, reasonably priced food consisting of all the usual Tex-Mex suspects cooked extremely well and relatively fast, more than make up for this. The pico de gallo spicy tomato dip accompanying the complimentary nacho chips is very hot but delicious!
