Sawdust on the floor, interesting wine paraphernalia & the traditional Windsor chairs ensure this friendly basement wine bar is every inch the archetypal Davy’s. The upstairs fish restaurant is gone & there is no longer a distinction between formal & casual dining, but it remains a convivial spot in which to unwind over a lunch of hand-carved Alderton ham, a Cumberland sausage sandwich or perhaps duck confit with dauphinoise potatoes; evening bites are restricted to sandwiches & platters. The Davy’s wine list kicks off with the own-label French red or white at £14.25; most of the list is available by the glass & there’s a small selection of half bottles.
