Pitched on the ground floor of Bibendum, in the old Michelin megalith, this easy-going seafood & Champagne bar is squeezed between the building’s covered terrace – where vendors sell scented blooms & cakes to passers-by – & the vast Conran shop. The art-deco, tiled interior is plastered with old-fashioned cartoons depicting the tyre manufacturer’s history, although most of the well-to-do couples making a shopping pit stop here are more comfortable in the equally beautiful & less cluttered overflow area by the shop entrance. Crustacea on offer include lobsters, rock oysters & dressed crab, while charcuterie sharing plates or roast beef with endive salad & Roquefort dressing ensure everyone is accommodated. The wine list is a tour de force, with wallet-friendly pours at lunchtime & a cherry-picked Champagne selection from the first-floor restaurant.
