‘Perfect after a wonderful but exhausting trip to the Chelsea Flower Show’, noted one reader looking for a quick, post-event reviver. Pitched on the ground floor of Bibendum, in the vintage Michelin megalith, this easy-going seafood and Champagne bar features an art-deco, tiled interior plastered with old-fashioned cartoons depicting the tyre manufacturer’s history, although most of the well-to-do punters dropping in here are more comfortable in the equally beautiful, sheltered terrace by the entrance. Lobsters, rock oysters, smoked salmon and dressed crab are the stars, although charcuterie sharing plates, salads, daily roasts and lamb curry ensure everyone is accommodated. Service couldn’t be more charming, and the wine list is a tour de force, with wallet-friendly pours at lunchtime and a cherry-picked Champagne selection from the first-floor restaurant. Note: no bookings.
