Teas & spices shipped from India were once stored at Butler’s Wharf, so it’s appropriate the area should have an Indian restaurant. Bengal Clipper draws its inspiration not just from Bengal but from ports of call throughout the subcontinent. Dishes from the north include a melt-in-the-mouth lamb pasanda & angari tandoor murgh, a subtly spiced tandoori chicken dish, while the south is represented by Goan crab vindaloo & xacuti chicken, both laden with southern India’s trademark coconut flavours. And of course there are loads of Bengali options, including a mouthwatering speciality of hara massala made with Bengal tiger fish. The Sunday buffet offers particularly good value at £7.75 for an apparently endless array of dishes.
