The Belgo mini-chain (five restaurants in & around London) found fame with that Belgian favourite, moules frites. The versions served at this cavernous venue aren’t London’s best, but there’s an alluringly wide range. One-kilo pots of the mollusc can be ordered marinière, with Thai green curry sauce, or au poivre (green peppercorn sauce). Platters of mussels arrive topped with tomato sauce & grilled mozzarella. Flemish influences continue with beef carbonnade, rotisserie chicken, haddock in Brugs Wit beer batter, & waffles with ice cream & chocolate sauce for pud. The lengthy drinks menu pays homage to Belgian beer, showcasing all sorts: from draught Früli Strawberry to Vedett or Trappist Chimay Rouge. Shots of fruit-flavoured schnapps appeal to livelier crowds, of which there are many on Friday & Saturday nights.
