Lobby Bar at the InterContinental

The InterContinental shut in 2006 for a £76m refurb, so it’s a pity that some of the elements of its sprawling lobby bar’s new look seem to be a bit too generically intercontinental, with little to tell you that you’re in London. But not so the cocktails: Perry Sling (Plymouth gin, pear puree, nettle cordial, lemon juice & ginger ale) heads a section on a theme of English Country Gardens, while the inclusion of signature mixes from hip London bars such as Trailer Happiness & Milk & Honey is a nice touch. Considerable thought has been put into a good selection of wines, spirits, malt whisky & great British beers. The list of nibbles follows suit with an ‘I’m Backing Britain’ selection of mini fish & chips, ploughman’s lunch or a bacon roll.
