It touts fine wines & vintage fizz by the glass, exclusive atomised martinis, a bourbon bar of some distinction & a classy Mayfair address – so why isn’t Grosvenor House the smart money’s default hook-up? In any other upscale hotel, its Red Bar – an art-deco goodie tricked out in a saucy shade of Campbell’s tomato soup – would be rammed with the beau monde, but here it’s a curious mix of blousy blondes & rented tuxedos up in town for a bit of a do, middle-ranking managers from Minnesota & others of similar ilk. That said, its drinks are top drawer – think americano, negroni, Rhett Butler bloody Mary, raspberry Collins & more besides. With a red on the rocks in hand, you’ll look Vogue picture-perfect in this great room.
