Regulars at this timeless City wine bar will probably have noticed that a coat of fresh, peppermint-hued paint has been applied to the place in recent months. However, not much has changed in the much-loved, semi-basement room: there’s still plenty of mellow wood to be seen & the restaurant still serves up generous helpings of British food – think fried mushrooms on toast with cream & tarragon before calf’s liver & bacon with mash & onion gravy. Alternatively, nibble on snacks & platters or chomp your way through a 6oz sirloin steak sandwich at the bar. The Jamies wine list is easy to navigate, with informative tasting notes & a dozen recommendations by the glass.
