High stools & utilitarian tongue & groove panelling in the spacious front bar give way to higher comfort levels & more seclusion in the dining room of this bright & buzzy semi-basement wine bar & restaurant. Lunch might start with carpaccio of beef with crisp air-dried ham & truffle oil before moving on to new season lamb chops with minted Jersey Royals & honey gravy. The food is lighter at the bar, & if you want to gossip or deal there are discreet alcoves. The wine list offers plenty of choice: France leads the pack, but if you’re in a cosmopolitan mood you might instead opt for a Franschhoek 2004 Cinsault-Cabernet from South Africa.
