Arguably the jewel in the Balls Brothers crown, this Hay’s Galleria branch is one of the most laid-back spots along this part of the river, especially in summer when you can play petanque on the sandy pitch by the terrace. Classic French regions feature strongly on the extensive wine list, though food in the smart dining room is by contrast thoroughly British: think asparagus with lemon hollandaise or rack of lamb with onion & tomatoes. If you eat in the bar, the fare is lighter – sandwich platters & salads are the order of the day.
