While Soho pullulates with ‘new this & blogged that’, a few of its stalwarts continue in a mellower vein. Aurora has an intimate townhouse setting that many find ‘delightful’ as well as ‘romantic’, & it always attracts a goodly local mix. The food hints at the seasons, moving from gazpacho or crayfish salad with mango & avocado to lamb’s liver with Puy lentils, generous sirloin steak with béarnaise & fish options such as sea bass with new potatoes & samphire; veggies might have pasta or mushroom stroganoff with walnut polenta. The wine list holds some tempters towards its higher reaches – a Vacqueyras at £38.50, for example. Not all readers are impressed by the service, but everyone raves about the tiny courtyard garden. Note the Sunday roast, a snip at £12.95.
