Square Meal review of Les Associes:
Crouch End’s Francophiles have great affection for this archetypically French, family-run affair. Carpeted & upholstered in burgundy with primrose yellow tablecloths, the homely (& now a little shabby) decor is certainly not le dernier cri, nor is the menu. But dishes such as full-bodied onion soup, snails forestiere (with garlic, parsley, mushrooms & aubergine cream sauce) & entrecote of beef with morels are painstakingly prepared & provide the cholesterol-laden comfort typical of traditional French food. Prices are reasonable, the all-French wines chime perfectly with the cooking & for the many regulars who can walk home, the digestifs are an irresistible part of the package.
