At first glance, The Ark’s boxy interior might suggest a trendy pop-up rather than a chic, much-loved Kensington stalwart, but look again & you’ll see parquet floors & grey slate walls brightened up by splashes of colour, plus a tiny shaded alfresco area for fine days. The kitchen dishes up a skilfully prepared Italian menu that avoids most of the trattoria clichés while still paying respects to the homeland. Starters of lightly battered, deep-fried courgette flowers stuffed with mozzarella & anchovies, or bruschetta topped with crab meat & crème fraîche set the tone, while pasta might offer rich tagliatelle with rabbit & olive ragù or duck agnolotti with autumn truffle sauce. Mains are more traditional – think grilled swordfish or veal milanese – & the extensive, all-Italian wine list includes some interesting regional names.
