Square Meal review of The Ark:
This pointy-roofed sliver of a restaurant, decorated in shades of taupe & cerise, is an intimate place, with a beguiling ambience & warm, friendly staff. The food is impressive. Deep-fried courgette flowers in a tempura casing oozed buffalo mozzarella & anchovies. Pasta & risotto are house specialities & might include squeaky-fresh lobster ravioli well matched to chopped tomato & a delicate saffron bisque, or a textbook goats’ cheese, walnut, lemon & thyme risotto. More substantial dishes might be whole roasted squid, herb-crusted sea bass or roast rack of lamb, while for pudding there’s creamy pannacotta with a punchy grappa & rhubarb compote or a generous portion of summer pudding. The Italian wine list is extensive & particularly strong on Tuscan, Sicilian & Piedmontese bottles. Another pleasure of The Ark is that, as one reader put it, ‘when the bill came we didn’t fall off our chairs’.
