It’s all change at the charming restaurant within Somerset House, where a more simplified & relaxed approach has been introduced. Gone are the orange walls & insect curios of yesteryear in favour of a pale grey backdrop featuring a rotation of artwork by young, upcoming talent. As for the food, the straightforward French brasserie-style menu includes several vegetarian options & is accompanied by a regional French & international wine list. A rich pressed foie gras terrine with golden brioche & luscious honeycomb might be followed by a hearty duck confit with tender, smoky lentils, & rounded off with a smooth, tangy passionfruit creme brulee. While some areas could use fine-tuning (occasional under-seasoning, unavailability of a couple of wines by the glass), generous portions, swift service & the uplifting atmosphere equal good value for money. Weekly specials highlight seasonal fare, while a three-course express offer for £19.50 can be served within 45 minutes.
