Bentwood chairs, bare tables & stripped floors give a pared-down, rustic vibe to this well-established Italian, where diners are greeted by the aroma of freshly baked bread, not to mention the smiling Sicilian owner. A straightforward menu of regional Italian favourites includes some decent pasta dishes, all made from scratch: butternut-squash ravioli with sage & burnt butter is always a winner, or you can splash out on taglioni with lobster. Meaty mains include classic osso bucco or pan-fried calf’s liver, while seafood tends to be grilled or roasted & served with minimal fuss, as in a dish of fresh tuna with Sicilian caponata. Prices are fair – although the set menu (£17.50 for two courses) makes them more attractive – & the all-Italian wine list includes some regional big hitters.
